Transfer your domain out

Every domain you buy through Ontfly is registered with Cloudflare Registrar on your behalf. Cloudflare lists Ontfly as the registrant (legal owner of record) but you keep full operational control: you can transfer the domain to any other ICANN registrar at any time, with no penalty from us.

What you own

You own the right to the domain. Ontfly is the registrant of record for billing convenience — when you transfer out, we release the domain to your name at the new registrar within minutes of you starting the transfer.

We never sell, park, or auction a customer domain. We never sit on one after you cancel: a cancelled subscription gives you 30 days to either renew or initiate a transfer; after that the domain is released back to Cloudflare's general pool.

How to transfer

  1. Email support@ontfly.ai with the FQDN. We reply within one business day with an EPP / auth code — the secret string ICANN requires for registrar-to-registrar transfers.
  2. Open an account at your destination registrar (Namecheap, Hover, Cloudflare direct, etc).
  3. Start the transfer at the destination registrar, paste in the auth code, and confirm the WHOIS email we sent.
  4. The transfer typically completes in 5–7 days. Your site stays live throughout — the DNS records continue to resolve via Cloudflare's edge.

What you'll pay

ICANN requires you pay for at least 1 additional year of registration at the destination registrar (the new registrar charges this). Ontfly does not charge a transfer-out fee. Any unused registration time on our side carries over to the new registrar.

Subscription credits stay on your Ontfly account — credits are decoupled from the domain. If you also cancel your subscription, unused pack credits can be refunded from the billing page.

Auth codes (EPP codes)

The auth code is the 16+ character secret your destination registrar uses to prove you authorise the transfer. We mint it on demand and only share it via support email so a leaked screenshot can't hijack your domain. Codes expire after 7 days if unused; we'll mint a fresh one if you need it.

If you'd prefer to manage the domain at Cloudflare directly, the simplest path is to create your own Cloudflare account and transfer in there — Cloudflare charges no markup on transfers between Cloudflare accounts and the wholesale renewal price stays the same.

Edge cases

  • 60-day lock. ICANN locks new domains for 60 days after registration. We can't transfer one out before then — this is a registry-side rule, not an Ontfly policy.
  • Sub-domains. You can keep a CNAME like app.yourdomain.com pointing at our Render service even after transferring the apex out, by setting the CNAME manually at your new DNS host.
  • Account suspended. If your Ontfly account is suspended for ToS violations, transfers still work — owning a domain is independent of platform status.

Have a domain you already own and want to bring to Ontfly? That's a separate flow (BYO domain) — drop us a note at support@ontfly.ai and we'll walk you through pointing the existing DNS at our Render service. Native UI for BYO ships in a later sprint.
